Tesco Cherry & Vanilla Ice Cream Review

Tesco Cherry & Vanilla Ice Cream with Glace Cherries

With a heatwave predicted and the last few days being SCORCHIO already, it was time to grab some ice cream while I was shopping.

Tesco Cherry & Vanilla Ice Cream, with glace cherries! This is pricier than the Tesco Neapolitan bought the other week, but I didn’t find that one had enough taste… so, how does the cherry & vanilla flavour shape up?

Today’s price for this was £2, for a 900 ml tub – working out at 22p/100ml.

Tesco Cherry Vanilla Ice Cream; Portion of Ice Cream

Once you’ve got the lid off, it’s roughly marked into eight portions, of course, it’s up to you how large a portion is, but if you follow the suggestion of eight servings, that’s 25p/portion.

Following the eight portions idea, that’d make a portion of ice cream at 112ml.

Somebody else might’ve chosen to rearrange the glace cherries on the top, so there was one per portion, but I am eating the entire tub at some point, so didn’t bother.

How Does it Taste?

This has a nice cherry taste. I liked it. It’s way ahead of the cheapest range. For the price I felt it represented good value for money.

The ice cream was smooth enough and creamy enough.

How Does the Price Compare?

While it can be surprising just how much some premium brand ice creams cost per 100ml, you can also find some “hidden gems”.

The Tesco Cherry & Vanilla ice cream costs 22p/100ml. If you’re the sort of person who adds their own sauces and toppings, then, per 100ml, the Walls Soft Scoop Vanilla (1800ml) works out much cheaper, at just 13p/100ml; that’s 2/3rds of the price! Looking at a larger tub, at twice the size, Kelly’s Cornish Vanilla Dairy Ice Cream (2 Litres) works out at just 20p/100ml.

I probably need to spend more time studying the prices/choices of ice creams… maybe I might’ve made a different choice. Having thought that through, I think I now fancy ice cream and adding my own sauce from a bottle, which could’ve given me more variety. More thinking time needed there I think; as I rarely buy ice cream though I’ve not spent much time looking at it that way!

Buy Again/Recommend to a Friend?

I would definitely buy this flavour and brand again, although I eat so little ice cream I’m more likely to try another flavour in the same range if one catches my eye. I’d recommend it to a friend.

Having said that, I’m now wondering if I should go down the “buy plain ice cream and add toppings” route 🙂
