Slow Cooker Roast Potatoes

Slow cooker roast potatoes can be achieved, if that’s the only way you can cook them. Personally, although I’ve cooked roast potatoes 2-3 times over the years, it’s not really a justifiable use of time or equipment.

Some people get great results – and you might too. If you have access to a proper oven, you’re better off doing roast potatoes in that in my opinion!

However, you’re here to find out how long does it take to cook roast potatoes in a slow cooker and how you do it, so here we go. You will be limited by the size of your slow cooker as they really need to be in a single layer – the roasting/browning takes place when the potatoes are in direct contact with the hot pot bottom and sides.

Slow Cooker Roast Potatoes Recipe

  1. Peel and cut your potatoes
  2. Par-boil, or part-cook your potato chunks. I use the microwave to do this, but you can boil them.
  3. Coat the bottom of the slow cooker in oil, 4-5 tablespoons or so.
  4. Turn the slow cooker on to HIGH, so the pot and oil can heat up
  5. Brush your part-cooked potatoes with a little oil and place the potatoes into the slow cooker.
  6. Place a tea-towel on top of the slow cooker pot, then put the lid on top – this soaks up excess moisture, so your roast potatoes become crispy and not soggy.
  7. Check and turn the potatoes over after 1-1½ hours. Replace the tea towel and lid and continue cooking on HIGH until cooked.
  8. After about two hours they will probably be ready to serve.

How Long Does It Take to Roast Potatoes in a Slow Cooker?

It will depend on how many potatoes you’re roasting and the size/power of your slow cooker, but they take roughly 2 hours on HIGH.

If you persist, you might be able to get a better end result, with your own little tweaks, but it’s not for me!
