Microwave Hoisin Noodles

10 Minute Microwave Hoisin Noodles

This is a 3 ingredients, 10 minute, microwave hoisin noodles recipe that’s great to eat on its own, or as a side dish.

I thought I’d try the Asda stir fry hoisin sauces and review it as I’d picked up a box of 10 pouches the other week, so it was time to try them out to see if they’re as good as I hoped! You can use any bottles, or sachet, of hoisin sauce though!

Ingredients:

  • 1 pack of cheap, instant, noodles – any flavour, discard the enclosed sachets
  • 1 medium/large onion, chopped
  • 1 pack Asda Hoisin Stir Fry Sauce (or any hoisin sauce you’ve already got!)
  • A little oil, to cook the onions
  • Optional: you can add in a little thin/grated carrot, or some frozen peas if you wish!

Method:

  1. Break up the instant noodles while they’re still in the pack, open the pack and discard the flavour sachet as you won’t be using it. Place the instant noodles in a bowl and cover with boiling water. You can do this ahead of time if you wish. I use the Sistema soup bowls, which have a lid, so I’ll just fill that with hot water and put the lid on until the noodles are soft.
  2. Once the noodles are soft, drain all the water away and let the noodles cool until you’re ready to use them (which is why the lidded Sistema soup bowls are handy)
Microwave Hoisin Noodles
  1. Place the chopped onions in a microwave safe bowl, with 1-2 teaspoons of oil. Microwave on high power for 8-9 minutes, stirring every 2 minutes. This is how to microwave onions for any recipe.
  2. Add the cold, rehydrated, noodles to the onions and mix the two together. If you are adding a little carrot, or some peas, add them now! Microwave the noodles and onions for 1 minute.
  3. Add the contents of the hoisin sauce sachet to the noodles and onions and give it a stir through.
  4. Microwave on high for 2 minutes.

Serve!

Review of the Asda Hoisin Sauce:

It’s tasty enough, but lacked the flavour I was hoping it’d be! As I had bought a box of 10 of these pouches I’ll have to eat the remainder at some point, but I’d not bother buying again.

Serve With:

Today this was my meal – I didn’t need anything else, but this method of cooking noodles in the microwave can also be used for making chow mein, or serving with a Chinese curry sauce using Mayflower powder.

Work Lunches:

With access to a microwave oven at work, you can cook up your noodles and onions the night before, then box them up in a takeaway box in the fridge overnight. Just take your takeaway box of noodles and rice + a bottle of hoisin sauce to work and then:

  1. Microwave the cooked noodles and onions on high for 2 minutes
  2. Splash in the hoisin sauce of your choice and stir it in
  3. Microwave on high for one minute.

And there’s a quick and easy, hot work lunch!
