Lidl Chicken, Leek, Wholegrain Mustard Pie, Deluxe Range

Any good?

I didn’t set out to buy the Lidl chicken, leek, wholegrain mustard pie, but there it was on the shelf, luring me in – so I bought it to try it.

I prefer to buy a family sized pie, or a sharing pie as the current term seems to be, then divide them into 3-4 pieces as I find the filling/pastry ratio is better than buying individual pies.

The pack says it is for three servings, although I always see that as a generous portion as it would stretch to four. 500 grams/3 = 167 grams per portion; 500 grams/4 = 125 grams per portion.

Will it Freeze?

Can you freeze this Lidl Chicken, Leek & Mustard Pie? In short, yes.

Most pies will freeze and I bought this pie to divide into three generous portions for future meals.

When freezing a pie like this, my tip is to first cut the pie, then use some kitchen scissors to cut the foil tray to the same shape. This gives each pie piece some stability while it’s freezing and when it’s cooking. Having cut the pie and foil tray into three pieces I use foil to wrap them individually; to reheat these pies I am then leaving the portion in the tin foil tray and inside the outer foil wrapper I’ve made, I just peel back the outer foil.

Lidl Pie Review:

Honestly, this pie was a real treat. I’d have never normally bought this as it says its a chicken and leek pie and I’m not a fan of leeks, it also contains mustard and I’m not a big fan (I’ve never bought a pot of mustard ever, nor put it on any food). This pie was absolutely lovely! And I would highly recommend it to anybody else and will keep an eye out in future to see if I can spot them for sale again!

If you’re wondering who makes this pie, who are the manufacturers, the box says they are made by Roy’s Quality Foods, P.O. Box 108, Caerphilly, Wales, CF83 9AE, United Kingdom. So they’re British manufactured, made in Wales!
