Quick Snack Ideas: Cocktail Sausages & Dip

Asda Cocktail Sausages, Heinz Jalapeno Chilli Dip

Here’s a great quick snack idea, just ready cooked cocktail sausages and a dip that’s simply Heinz Jalapeno Ketchup!

I often find myself buying packs of ready cooked cocktail sausages, rather than packs of raw sausages, as they are so versatile and already cooked, so save time when making a cooked breakfast, a sandwich filling, or just as a snack. I’m quite happy taking 2-3 cocktail sausages, still cold, from the fridge when passing and feeling that was enough, “just a snack”.

Snacks shouldn’t be large in the main – they aren’t a whole meal. So this hits the spot for a late evening quick snack that’s hot and tasty.

All supermarkets sell packs of ready cooked cocktail sausages and they’re a Xmas food staple purchase in my house!

Ingredients, per person:

  • 8-12 Supermarket bought, ready-cooked cocktail sausages
  • Heinz Jalapeno Chilli Ketchup (or any other brand or flavour you’ve got!)

Method:

  1. Place 8-12 ready-cooked cocktail sausages into a microwave safe dish – it’s best if you can lay them out in a single layer so they’ve got room to be cooked quickest and thoroughly.
  2. Microwave on full power for 1 minute. Turn the sausages round/move them about and microwave on full power for 1 more minute.
  3. Squeeze a good dollop of Heinz Jalapeno Chilli Ketchup sauce into a small pot or dish. (Actually, you don’t even need a pot, you could just squeeze out a dollop of ketchup dip into the dish you’ve microwaved your sausages in if you want to save on washing up!

Serve!

Cost of Living Crisis Price Update 2022

It’s been exactly a year since I first wrote this post – and I usually get these cocktail sausages in for Xmas week. Have prices increased? Yes, they have – I’ve noticed this in the last 2-3 months when shopping and then not bought them.

So how are the prices stacking up right now? They’re not too bad at present, here are some price updates. There are many sized packs, so I’ll try to stick with those approximately 400g:

  • Aldi, Ashfield Farm, 400g/40 cocktail sausages, £1.79
  • Asda, 400g, £2.50
  • Waitrose Essential, 400g/40 cocktail sausages, £3.10

It looks like the Aldi Ashfield Farm cocktail sausages will be making the list this Xmas!

As these are the ready to eat cocktail sausages, they’re easy to just grab as a cold nibble, or microwave hot again if I want!
