Savoury Mince & Dumplings

Savoury Mince Suet Dumpling Microwave Meal

This savoury mince and dumplings recipe is cooked entirely in the microwave.  The main part of the dish is the leftovers from the Shepherd’s Pie recipe I made – using frozen lamb mince, carrots, peas, an onion, Worcestershire sauce and tomato ketchup.

Having saved the leftovers from that in an airtight container in the fridge, all I had to do was microwave it again, for 2-3 minutes until it was piping hot.  I did add another small splash of gravy to the mix, made with just ½ a teaspoon of instant gravy mix and boiling water.

The dumpling was made in a mug – it’s a single microwave Mug Dumpling cooked in just 3 minutes in the microwave then placed onto the savoury mince to serve.

Under 10 Minutes!

This was a fast meal using the leftovers – but, to cook from scratch, this meal can still be on your plate in under 10 minutes!

This meal serves one person, but can be scaled up easily enough for more.  So, just in case you missed it, here are the two parts:

Although I served this meal as shown, you could serve with a baked potato, or mashed potato and any additional vegetables you have; perhaps a cabbage.  Again, all food you can cook in the microwave easily enough.

Menu Cost – 50p:

To buy a ready meal like this would cost you £1-£1.40.  The cost of this meal is certainly under half of that (I’m guessing at 50p) and the quantities are more generous; using fresh food without preservatives you can also have that smug glow of “I cooked this from scratch” if that adds pleasure to your evening!
