Aldi Lemon Swirl Cheesecake 375g

Aldi Lemon Swirl Cheesecake 375g

Just 11-13p per portion! For an enjoyable affordable dessert, I do usually have a lemon cheesecake in the freezer. I’m not overly bothered which supermarket has met that need, but it’s a “go to” treat.

Costing just 65p I’ve had the Aldi, Lidl and Tesco offerings – although not identical they’re all very similar. The Aldi lemon cheesecake goes under the branding of Dessert Menu.

How Many Portions Are in a Cheesecake?

Aldi Lemon Swirl cheesecake cut into portions

The box says it serves 5. It weighs 375g. If you try to find out how large a portion is for any single food you can get varying answers, “75-80 grams” seems popular. This cheesecake gives five 75 gram portions – the trouble is, how do you cut it into five neatly?

I am going to eat the whole cheesecake myself; in the past I’ve cut it into quarters and thirds. But, more recently, I’ve started to “cut back” a little and now cut the cheesecake into six pieces. I found that 1/6th was “enough” – and, let’s face it… I can always pop back to the fridge a bit later.

How Long Does a Frozen Cheesecake Last Once Defrosted?

This is a frozen cheesecake, so you first have to defrost it. I defrost it in the fridge, planning to eat it over the coming two days, today and tomorrow. My fridge door isn’t opened very often, so I am confident that it will be stored correctly.

The official instructions say:

“Remove from all packaging and place on a plate or serving tray. Allow to defrost for 2-2 1/2 hours at room temperature or in a Refrigerator for 4-5 hours. After defrosting keep refrigerated and consume within 24 hours.”

I keep the cheesecake in its box in the fridge, just removing the box to take the next portion each time.

Aldi Lemon Cheesecake Review

There’s usually one of these 65p Dessert Menu Lemon Cheesecakes in my freezer – I think that says it all! Cheap, cheerful, tasty. When I cut it into six pieces, this is an 11p dessert!

I will always buy the Aldi lemon cheesecake, as that’s where I currently shop most of the time – but I do prefer the Tesco Ms Molly Lemon Cheesecake, which I feel has a little bit more of a “sharp lemon” edge to it.

Also available in strawberry! I’m not so keen on this flavour. I’ll buy one if I’m in Aldi to buy a cheesecake and there are no lemon cheesecakes… but I’ll always choose the lemon over the strawberry flavour.

Cost of Living Crisis Price Update 2022

Although these used to be a nice, cheap, little cheesecake, during August 2022 the price increased to 85p and this particular version of the Aldi cheap cheesecake changed. I tried one at the higher price, which has a sole lemon layer on top, it’s not as good.

The Tesco Ms Molly Lemon cheesecake that is similar was still selling at 65p until at late September 2022 when it became an “Aldi price match” item and was also repriced at 85p.

These Aldi cheesecakes are not such a great “bargain” at 85p. I will stop buying them so regularly, I will always think twice, whereas before I’d just grab one without thinking as they were great and at a great price.

I do actually prefer the Tesco Ms Molly lemon cheesecake (it’s a bit tangier), but am in there less often.
