Castle Grove Creamy Chicken Pie

It’s pure coincidence that it’s British Pie Week and I’ve just bought a Castle Grove creamy chicken pie from Lidl. I usually try to buy Pukka Pies – and bought my last Pukka Pie at Lidl – but when I looked they didn’t have any, so it was a choice between buying the Castle Grove deep fill creamy chicken pie there and then, or doing a two mile round trip to buy a Pukka Pie.  Decisions, decisions… but, you’ll be pleased to know, I decided to save the planet, go all green and eco and buy the pie that was available to me! Castle Grove Creamy Chicken Pie Lidl

I’ll be cooking this either today or tomorrow in my newly acquired Mini Oven – after all, the main reason I bought this new kitchen gadget was because I was missing baked pies and pastry.  While the microwave oven can be used to microwave pies, ultimately only a proper oven does the job properly!

There’s all the gumph about the pie on the rear, so, if you’re interested in the calories in the Castle Grove chicken pie, then here’s the blurb.  The weight of the Castle Grove chicken pie is 235 grams, so it’s not a small pie, but it is an individual pie, it’s a deep-fill style:

Now, if you’re interested in the nutritional value and calories of these pies, there it is.  Personally, I am at a loss to explain any of it except I do understand the calories…. it’s pretty much the only figure I take note of as it’s within my ability to understand/keep track 🙂

This pie takes 25 minutes to cook, at an oven temperature of 200°C/180°C Fan.

Freezing Pies:

This pie can be frozen and can be cooked from frozen in a 200°C/180°C Fan oven for 50 minutes. It’s always nice to know how to cook food from frozen, just to get the timings right!

But, I won’t be freezing my pie, it’s got a fridge-life of about a week, so I’ve a few days left to cook it.  I do hope I don’t end up disappointed!  The plan is to serve this pie with some oven chips and Harry Ramsden’s Mushy Peas.  I’ll let you know how that goes!

Update: I cooked the pie – Pie, chips and Mushy peas!
